About Us

The Mike Bayon Garden Design partnership (Mike Bayon, Andrew Gardiner and Roger Lang), founded by Mike in 1982, created and worked in thousands of gardens, predominantly in London, but also throughout the southern counties of England and as far as the south of France, over a period of nearly 40 years.

The partnership came to an end in 2021. Mike had passed on in 2014 at the age of 92, and Andy had relocated to near Marlborough and was committed to working in Wiltshire and the west of England.

Roger set up Mike Bayon Garden Design South Ltd in April 2021 though this was, in effect, a continuation of the existing London-based business which continues to work in south west London but has increasingly also been carrying out larger projects in Surrey and Hampshire. This new business has the same core team of experienced and dedicated personnel delivering the same level of high quality work as ever.

Our focus, as ever, is on the design and implementation of new gardens, seeking to marry strong, sympathetic hard landscape with full and diverse plantings, marrying decorative effect with the creation of wildlife friendly habitats.

We install automated garden irrigation systems which facilitate the most effective use of water (at night time, to minimise evaporation) and also install low voltage garden lighting.

How We Work

Following initial contact, Roger will be happy to visit you, without obligation, and have a preliminary discussion about your garden.

Following this initial conversation, we will be in a position either to offer estimates for works which are immediately apparent, or will be able to advise the cost for carrying out design work. As we are a design and build business, the cost of drawings can be kept relatively low as we do not need to supply specifications to an outside contractor.

Once a design has been agreed, following any further consultation with you, we then offer estimates
for all the proposed works.

All implementation is carried out by our very experienced team who have a wide range of skills. We can also call on other long-standing relationships with other highly skilled contractors for, say, larger-scale bricklaying and electrical work where required.

Roger oversees all works but the team also build good working relations with clients and, where needed, with neighbours where boundaries are affected.

Mike Bayon’s old school founding precepts are still in place – hard work, good humour, courtesy and consideration for others – still no “transistor radios” allowed on site! We feel very fortunate to be making gardens for a living and hope that the process, as well as the end result, will also be enjoyable for our clients.
